The Baal of Peor Leading the Unsuspecting to Death through the Snare of Sexual Immorality

The Baal of Peor
Leading the Unsuspecting to Death through the Snare of Sexual Immorality

The Scriptures are our best source for learning the works of the enemy against our lives: how he would like to trap us and lead us away from the Living God, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. When we turn to the book of Numbers 25 we can learn of one such demonic force that would work to lead the people of God down a path of destruction through idolatry and adultery. This wicked demonic force is called the Baal of Peor, and it ensnared the Israelites and caused a great plague to break out among the people of God that caused the death of twenty-four thousand. This number would have been considerably higher had it not been for the passion for the Lord of one man.

In their encounter with the Baal of Peor the Israelite people where first enticed by their fleshy desires. This is very often how the enemy will first try to work into our lives. He will try to find our weakest spot in our flesh and then exploit that weakness until He gains a foothold. In the case of the Israelite men in Numbers 25 they were drawn into sin because of their lustful desires for the woman of Moab. In Numbers 25:1 we read where the people committed harlotry (whoredom in the King James Version) with the woman of Moab. When you look up the Hebrew word in this passage it is the word “zanah”. Strong’s dictionary defines this word as “to commit adultery; to commit idolatry and to commit fornication”. The Baal of Peor uses the enticements of the sexual nature to pull a person away from their covenants; first with Jehovah God, then with their spouses. People who suffer from repeated sexual fantasies, adultery, fornication, pornography, and other such sexual sins, might need to be delivered from, and divorce, from the Baal of Peor to gain freedom. Only true repentance, calling on the name of Jesus, and applying the blood of Jesus will overcome and abolish the covenants established with the Baal of Peor.
When the enemy uses the Baal of Peor to ensnare a person there is an unholy covenant that is established. If we look at verse 3 in Numbers 25 you can read how the Israelites were “joined to the Baal of Peor.” This is far deeper than just giving into a temptation. When a person gives into the leading of the Baal of Peor that person will be led to break his covenant with Jehovah and establish a covenant with the enemy. One of the definitions for Baal is “husband”. This shows us there is a bond that is created when this Baal enters a person’s life. During the deliverance process the person ensnared by this demonic force must divorce themselves from the Baal of Peor and re-establish their covenant of sexual purity with Jehovah, asking forgiveness for the sins of sexual impurity, and asking for the blood of Jesus/Yeshua to cover over and wash their sins away.
If this demonic entity is not removed from a person’s life through the blood of Jesus/Yeshua, it will lead to destruction and death, whether that death is spiritual, or physical. Today we see many sexually transmitted diseases such as hepatitis C, herpes, gonorrhea, and AIDS, running rampant throughout the world. Some of these lead to physical death.  People who join themselves to the Baal of Peor will bring a curse of death upon themselves. We read in Numbers 25 where the Israelites were inflicted with a plague of death. The plague in this case was the LORD commanded Moses to tell the judges of the people to go about and kill every man who was joined to the Baal of Peor. Then, after they had been killed, they were to hang the bodies up in public view for all to see. When being delivered from the Ball of Peor it is important to cancel the curses of death that have been released into the person’s life, both in the physical and the spiritual. One sure way to cancel these curses and to make sure they don’t try to return is to become very zealous for the Lord and His ways. In verses 7-11 we read about Phinehas who was very zealous for the Lord and because of his actions the wrath of the LORD was subsided and the plague was stopped. When we become passionate for the LORD He will intervene on our behalf and the curse of death will be broken.
There is a promise that we have from the LORD when we divorce ourselves from the Baal of Peor. That promise is a covenant of peace with our LORD. This is a deep promise from the LORD and to fully understand it we have to go to the Hebrew roots of this word. The word that is used here is “shalom” which means health, prosperity, and peace. There is a healing anointing released that will reverse the effects of the curse of death that the enemy tries to put in a person’s life. Also, the peace of the LORD will be released over the person. We have seen this occur in people we have ministered to. There has been a sudden peace and quietness that washes over the person as they are consumed by the presence of the LORD.
There are a few miscellaneous things to mention regarding the Baal of Peor. One is that when ministering, the LORD may lead you to remove the garments of Zimri, who was the man in Numbers 25 who flaunted the Moabite woman leading Phinehas to become very zealous for the LORD. He may also lead you to establish the garment of Phinehas over the person, declaring the passion and zealous nature for God to come over the person. One last thing, if we look at Deuteronomy 3:29 we read about a place called the Beth of Peor. This is the place where the Baal of Peor dwelt. When ministering to an individual in the area of the Baal of Peor, you may have to take them out of the Beth of Peor in the spiritual realm.
The Baal of Peor is a very strong demonic force that the enemy will use to ensnare, trap, and lead astray any willing participant. This demonic force uses one of the oldest, but most effective, fleshy weaknesses; the sexual desires of humans. This demonic force is not to be attacked by those who are inexperienced in spiritual warfare. This fight is for those who have been properly trained in fighting against the spiritual powers of wickedness. It is our prayer that this short impartation will open your eyes to another one of the enemy’s snares, thus keeping you from falling into his traps. Following are some more scripture references for you to research regarding the Baal of Peor.
